Our highly qualified teachers hail from such institutions as London Studio Centre, Sylvia Young Theatre School, Central School of Speech and Drama, Laine Theatre Arts and Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art to mention a few – and have proven backgrounds in performance and instruction. They’re also hand-picked to be friendly, approachable, excellent with all ages and exemplars of the ethos of Joco Dance and Theatre Arts. We also provide quality dance, singing and drama tuition in nurseries in Wimbledon, Teddington and Ashtead for children from 18 months.

Our classes

Ballet

A graceful and athletic style of dance which can help with posture, flexibility and fitness. It is made up of specific steps and movements which are often used in sequence to tell a story. Good ballet technique underpins all other dance styles and is the perfect place to start for all ages. At Joco we love the traditional technique but lessons are fun and relaxed with a mix of classical and up to date music.

Tap

A cool style of dance with its origins in various percussive dance styles. Today, there are two main types of Tap dance; Broadway Tap, which can be seen in the work of such dancers as Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire and Rhythm Tap, popularised by dancers such as Gregory Hines and Savion Glover. At Joco we draw from both styles in our classes.

Modern Jazz

This creative form of dance draws from ballet technique to produce a modern and progressive style with high kicks, turns and expressive choreography. At Joco we teach commercial and lyrical modern jazz, both of which are energetic and characterful styles.

Contemporary

Freely expressive, partly improvised and emotionally connected; contemporary dance can be challenging but rewarding. Dancers such as Martha Graham popularised this dance style using good ballet technique and a holistic attitude.

Street Dance

Up to date and popular in the media, street dance is a fun and funky dance style allowing the dancer to push the boundaries of the more formal dance styles.

Musical Theatre

Incorporating singing, drama, acting and dance, musical theatre classes at Joco are fun and relaxed with group and solo work producing confident and impressive performances. Heavily influenced by Broadway, West End shows and popular music, film and theatre; prepare for show tunes at breakfast!

Gymnastics

Building strength and technique, gymnastics is a great way to burn off some excess energy while learning discipline and gaining confidence.
